BIDENS FERULIFOLIA

BIDENS FERULIFOLIA

Bidens plants are perennial and in Italy are grown as annuals. They belong to the Asteraceae family and are native to Central America. They have thin stems and branches with sharply toothed, often hairy leaves. They are trailers, with creeping branches that reach 30-40 cm in height and have numerous, five-petalled, yellow flowers. The branches that touch the ground produce roots which form new plants. To obtain compact plants, one can head them to facilitate the growth of new shoots. Bidens plants prefer loose, almost sandy soil, although they adapt to other types of soil as well. They must be placed in full sun and watered frequently, avoiding waterlogging. They can be placed in hanging vases to create lovely cascades of flowers. They must be fed once a month with a soluble fertilizer dissolved in the watering can. They are usually very rustic in nature and are not prone to attack by pests and diseases.
